Netflix compte plus de 180 millions d’abonnés dans le monde et est la principale plate-forme de vidéo à la demande par abonnement. En revenant sur l’histoire de cette société, la société a commencé par louer des DVD.

Connu pour ses séries populaires, ses films inédits et ses bandes-annonces convaincantes, Netflix est devenu le roi des médias en streaming payants, avec près de 180 millions d’abonnés dans le monde. Face à ce succès numérique, il est difficile d’imaginer que le succès de l’entreprise repose sur un objectif en déclin: le DVD.

Tout commence en 1997, lorsque deux entrepreneurs, Reed Hastings et Marc Randolph, décident de mélanger deux concepts : la location de films et la vente par correspondance. Mais il y a un problème, car, à l’époque, les films sont sur cassettes, un objet lourd qui coûte cher à l’expédition. Hastings et Randolph misent alors sur un nouveau support : le DVD.
